Newnham is very proud of its place in the history of women’s education, and we are delighted in the continuation of the Woolf Essay Prize.

A Room of One’s Own raises a number of questions surrounding the place of women in society and culture, and the competition allows students to contemplate these themes and ideas while developing the independent research and writing skills essential to university-level study.

Following from the success of our first ever Medical Student Essay Competition we are delighted to announce that we will continue with this competition for 2018/19.

This competition aims to encourage medical students to develop an interest in Clinical Radiology and promote Radiology to undergraduates.

All sources must be appropriately acknowledged and cited, and a bibliography – including websites consulted – should be attached (though excluded from the word count). The winning entries from previous competitions can be found above and may be useful as you decide how to answer your chosen question.

However, it is to be noted that there are many angles from which to approach each question and those available here are only a limited sample.

Prizes are useful additions to your CV, demonstrating both a commitment to a surgical career and achievement of excellence.

Winning is not necessary for inclusion – being short-listed or getting any kind of placing will still be a CV boost.

The title of the Essay Competition is: Artificial Intelligence in Radiology – Friend or Foe?

The RCR offers a variety of funded opportunities to develop learning, research, travel and teaching, available at every stage of your medical career, whether you are still studying at university, in the midst of your specialty training or a fully qualified consultant.
