How we have treated Native Americans in the past is an embarrassment to our history.
Removing Native Americans from their land when we first settled here was wrong because we caused them a lot of hardships, took something from them that wasn’t ours to take, and in the end we all the pain and suffering we caused them was really for nothing.
It is the mascot that represents the competitive spirit and team identity, motivating players and fans alike.
Does the symbol chosen have any impact on whether a team wins or loses. But the choice of a Native American mascot continues to ignite debate and controversy among athletes, fans and alumni, as well as those people who might otherwise be disinterested in sports.
During that time, horses were transported over, which started to spread diseases among the land’s natives.
Owing to the lack of immunity against such peculiar diseases, many started to die from chicken pox and measles.
