In the case of long titles or captions, care should be taken to make the first sentence convey the essential description of the item.
The first sentence alone then can be used in the list. The table or figure number begins at the left margin.
A list of tables, a list of figures, a list of symbols, a list of abbreviations, or a glossary may be used. The title is placed 2 inches from the top edge of the page in all capital letters: LIST OF TABLES. A list of tables or a list of figures is required if there are 5 to 25 entries.
Lists with fewer than 5 entries or more than 25 are not recommended.
It is not permissible to create a combined list of tables and figures.
